Belot score calculator

"How much do we write down?" is as old as Belot itself. Someone forgets the last trick, someone counts the belot twice, someone doubles the contra before comparing the points. The calculator below does the arithmetic by the belot.bg rules – the same way the Belot Arena table does: it adds the cards, the last trick, capot, declarations and belots, decides whether the contract is made, failed or hanging, and converts everything into game points.

You only enter the card points of one team – the calculator works out the other team from the total, so there is no room for a counting mistake on the other side.

How to use the calculator

  1. Pick the contract: clubs, diamonds, hearts, spades, No trumps or All trumps.
  2. Choose who bid the contract – "Us" (Ние) or "Them" (Вие). That decides who has to collect more points.
  3. Mark a contra or recontra if there was one.
  4. Enter the card points in our tricks, without the last trick. Their points are calculated automatically.
  5. Choose who won the last trick and tick "capot" if one team won all eight tricks.
  6. Add each team's accepted declarations and belots, and any points hanging from the previous hand.

Count the smaller pile of tricks and enter it for whichever team it belongs to. The fewer cards you count, the fewer mistakes you make.

What each field means

Calculator fields
FieldWhat you enter
Card pointsThe value of the cards in the tricks you won, at normal values, without the last trick. Both teams together have 152 in a suit contract, 248 in All trumps and 120 in No trumps.
Last trickThe team that won the eighth trick gets +10 (+20 in No trumps).
CapotIf one team won every trick it gets another 90. More about capot.
DeclarationsOnly the accepted ones – after you have compared tierces, quartes and fours of a kind. How declarations are compared.
BelotsThe number of belots a team announced, 20 points each. There is no belot in No trumps.
ContraContra doubles, recontra quadruples. Who may double and when.
Hanging pointsGame points left over from an earlier hanging hand (for example 11). They go to the team that wins this hand.

In No trumps you enter the cards at their normal values (ace 11, ten 10, king 4, queen 3, jack 2) – the calculator doubles them together with the last trick, just as the game does. Only the capot bonus is not doubled.

Example 1: a hearts contract that is made

We bid hearts. Our tricks contain 82 card points and we won the last trick: 82 + 10 = 92. The opponents have 152 − 82 = 70. We also have a tierce that beats their declaration: 92 + 20 = 112.

It is 112 against 70 – the contract is made. Each team records its own points: we get 112 → 11, the opponents 70 → 7. Together 18 – exactly the whole hand (182 points).

Example 2: a failed All trumps contract

We bid All trumps and have 120 card points, but the opponents win the last trick. They have 248 − 120 = 128 plus 10 for the last trick – 138 – and a tierce: 158. We have a belot: 120 + 20 = 140.

140 is less than 158 – the contract fails. The opponents record every point of the hand: 140 + 158 = 298 → 30 game points. We record 0.

Example 3: No trumps with contra

We play No trumps and the opponents say contra. Our tricks hold 70 points at normal values – 140 doubled – plus the last trick, which is doubled too in No trumps: 140 + 20 = 160. The opponents have 120 − 70 = 50, doubled to 100. Together 260 – the whole hand.

160 is more than 100 – the contract is made, and with contra the winner takes everything: (160 + 100) × 2 = 520 → 52 game points for us, 0 for them. Who wins is decided on the raw points, before multiplying.

Example 4: a hanging hand

We play spades. We have 71 card points and a tierce: 91. The opponents have 152 − 71 = 81 and the last trick: also 91. The points are equal – the hand hangs.

The opponents record their 91 → 9. Our 91 are not lost – they are rounded to 9 game points that hang and go to the team that wins the next hand. In the calculator you enter 9 in the "Hanging points" field for the next hand. More in the hanging deal.

Rounding

Raw points are divided by 10 and the rounding depends on the contract. The rule makes sure both teams together record the whole hand – 16 in a suit contract, 26 in No trumps and All trumps:

  • Suit contract: 7 and up rounds up, 5 and below rounds down. If both teams end in 6, the smaller total rounds up (96 : 66 → 9 + 7).
  • All trumps: 5 and up rounds up. If both teams end in 4, the smaller total rounds up (134 : 124 → 13 + 13).
  • No trumps: rounded after doubling, 5 and up rounds up.
  • When one team records everything (a failed or doubled contract), the sum is rounded normally: 298 → 30, 520 → 52.
  • On a hanging hand right on the boundary the hanging points round up: at 106 : 106 in a suit contract the opponents record 10 and 11 hang.

Every case, with examples, is in the rounding table of the scoring guide.

When the game ends

Game points add up to 151. If both teams pass 151 in the same hand, the team with more points wins, and on a tie play continues until one team leads. A game cannot end on a capot – if 151 is reached in a hand that ended in capot, one more hand is played.

The table counts for you. Play a hand and compare it with your own sums.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to enter both teams' points?

No. You enter our card points and theirs are worked out from the total – 152 in a suit contract, 248 in All trumps and 120 in No trumps, without the last trick.

Do declarations count when deciding whether the contract is made?

Yes. The raw totals are compared – cards, the last trick, capot, declarations and belots. Contra is applied only after that.

Why are there so many points in No trumps?

Because the points are doubled together with the last trick. A No trumps hand is worth 260 – as much as All trumps (258). Only the capot bonus is not doubled.

Where do hanging points go if the next hand hangs as well?

They accumulate and wait for the next hand that has a winner. Enter the total hanging amount (in game points) in the "Hanging points" field.
